Recently, we had the opportunity to work with tower builders for telecommunications companies, to understand how drone technology would enable them to improve productivity and create greater value for their customers and stakeholders.

Today, we are excited to launch Garuda TowerSight, a complete system that integrates an industrial-grade UAV and a dedicated mobile app into a seamless tower survey workflow.

Tower builders need to ensure that every new tower has line-of-sight (LOS) to a selected target tower, to confirm that transmission between directional antennas on both towers will not be obstructed by buildings, trees, or other tall structures. For many years, LOS verification was carried out by deploying a boom lift at (or near) the new tower site and sending the surveyor 30 meters or higher into the air to take photos of the target tower.

While this has been an effective way to verify LOS before the new towers are built, it puts the surveyor at risk of falling from heights, and the manual nature of the work and dependence on boom lifts meant that a significant amount of time and energy was required just to verify LOS.

Drones can easily replace the boom lift

Garuda TowerSight automates the process of collecting LOS information and eliminates the need for surveyors to work at heights. Less time working at heights means improved safety, and completing tower surveys in a shorter time means lower operating costs and improved productivity.

A single-application workflow

TowerSight App
The TowerSight system allows the surveyor to automatically plan out the UAV’s flight path and camera direction on a single mobile app. While the UAV carries out the flight autonomously, the TowerSight app provides the surveyor with complete control over the 10x zoom camera onboard and the entire image capture process.

Making the change

At Garuda Robotics, we understand the importance of good planning when embarking on innovative projects like this.

Our team of consultants are here to engage stakeholders in adopting new technology to equip themselves for the future, to ensure that the new system provides the high-quality results tower builders need, and to minimize downtime during the transition over to the new workflow.

Garuda TowerSight is also available as a service in selected countries. Our experienced UAV operators are happy to work with you to get the survey data you need.

We’d love to hear from you
