Garuda Robotics signed an Expression of Interest (EOI) with Arete M, a Singaporean provider of dedicated 4G networks for mission critical applications, at the NTUitive Start-up Homecoming 2016 event held today at the Nanyang Technological University Innovation Centre.

There is great potential in the market for LTE drones. Most drones today transmit data via WiFi, but drone operators are looking towards LTE as a solution to meet growing demands for greater bandwidths and wider coverage areas.

Our vision has always been for drones and other robots to operate autonomously in the field while maintaining connectivity with our Garuda Plex cloud backend so that raw data, analysed reports and live video streams can flow seamlessly. We look forward to working with Arete M to bring this vision to life with our Plex cloud platform and their dedicated LTE network.

Arete M is in discussion with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to explore the option of flying drones beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) for automated real-time video surveillance applications, and will be installing an outdoor LTE base station and an indoor small cell at the NTU Innovation Centre and the Robotics Research Centre respectively to facilitate the testing of LTE drones.
